Southwire Company: Proof Positive Copper with Trace ID Technology 2010 Grand Winner Southwire Company
Proof Positive Copper with
Trace ID Technology.

Some 95 percent of all utilities experience copper theft. Southwire recognized this customer problem and used technology to develop a solution — copper wire that looks different from all other wire and has a unique code that can be traced back to an individual buyer. In a test market, Georgia Power was able to work with recycling centers and local law enforcement to capture and prosecute the copper thieves. They experienced a decline in losses following the prosecution of the thieves, demonstrating the value of the traceable copper.
